Not only is it delicious and cheap, but you can teach the kids to make it. So no more going to the store in the middle of your pancake batch to buy syrup.  I make this right along with pancakes all the time!</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Robin’s Homemade Syrup</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
<p class="MsoNormal">3 cups granulated sugar</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3 cups brown sugar</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3 cups water</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">1 tsp. vanilla</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">1 tsp. salt</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">½ cup real maple syrup*</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">4 tsp. butter flavoring (optional&#8211;I make mine without this all of the time, and everybody likes it.)</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">*Variation: Instead of the real maple syrup, you can use 2 tsp. maple extract.</p>
